Video/Action for Violet City
[Shaun looks pale and trembling, and his eyes are wide and scared. He looks - and sounds, when he finally speaks - like he's been crying. All he can manage are four short words, before his voice cracks and it's all he can do not to break down.]
Norman won't wake up.
Norman won't wake up.
Action
No! I won't let you in.
Action
He needs to get a hospital, kid, and unless you plan on growing a couple feet in the next five minutes you're not getting him there on your own.
Action
[He's going to stomp on your toes.]
Our teams can get him there!
Action
[This kid really is nuts. Sure, maybe Blake once threatened to blow Jayden's brains out, but that was a long time ago and he was being a real dick.]
I'm not killing any- ow, what the hell?!
[He hops back when Shaun stomps on his foot, more in surprise than anything, though for a small guy he can put a lot of force into those things.]
[He clenches his teeth and tries to keep himself together. This is not what he expect to be goddamn doing today.]
A bunch of animals aren't going to be able to do it. However much you hate me, kid, right now I'm your best shot at getting Jayden where he needs to be before something else goes wrong.
Action
[He grips the door and goes to slam it in Carter's face. He doesn't care if Blake's right or not. He would rather tie Norman to his bed and get their pokemon to drag him to the hospital than let Carter anywhere near him.]
Action
I helped you, didn't I?
[He grabs the door and sticks his foot in to keep it open. He doesn't even give that much of a damn about Jayden living or dying, but he can't back down now. The fact all the yelling hasn't woken him up is not a good sign.]
Action
Don't touch him!
[Yeah, you're going to have to bodily move the child out of the way. He puts all of his little weight into trying to shut the door.]
Action
[Maybe Blake has hurt people, but it was always for good reason. He's not some raving lunatic, whatever Jayden thinks, and he'll prove it. He'll hold onto his temper, even though all he wants to do is charge in and slap Jayden until he comes to his goddamn senses.]
I'm not gonna hurt anybody, I promise. Just let me see if I can wake him up.
[He puts his hands on Shaun's shoulders and tries to move him aside gently. The last thing he needs is to hurt the kid. He's going to have the psycho ninja bitch after him again already.]
Action
no but srsly if Shaun wasn't already panicking he would probably be willing to listen to reason. As it is, he's no match for even the gentlest of the grown man's strength, and he stumbles a bit as he's moved to the side.
He grabs onto Blake's forearm in a last-ditch effort to keep him at bay.]
Don't you dare hurt him. I'll call Officer Jenny if you do!
Action
[He pauses at the grasp on his arm. A little kid being this convinced he's going to murder somebody just because the chance comes along...it hits in the pride, and in somewhere deeper he doesn't like to think about.]
I told you, I'm not going to.
[He gently pries Shaun's hand off and heads in] I'll bring him out. Go call an ambulance. They have those here, right?
Action
But between the almost gentle insistence - far removed from the yelling that they usually devolve into - makes Shaun let go when the man pries his fingers away. He stands there in the doorway as Blake moves past him.
Susie and Richie have their hackles raised as Blake approaches the bed, but their submissive programming keeps them at bay for the moment.]
I-I mean it!
[And then Shaun is gone, his team taking his place keeping Norman safe if Blake does something stupid.]
Action
[He and Norman were actually getting along pretty well - that is to say, just arguing and growling at each other without coming to physical blows. And what's the point of beating on somebody who's unconscious? Blake has some standards, no matter what crazy shit people think of him.]
[A little traitorous thing in the back of his head points out that that impression doesn't come from nowhere.]
[Jayden's what he needs to be focusing on here. There he is, sleeping like he doesn't have a care in the world. Weird to see him like that. His chest is rising and falling, and when Blake picks up his wrist, the pulse is steady.]
Come on, Jayden. Time to quit screwing around.
[He pats his face, though he stops short of slapping since that'll get him tackled by a giant weasel. No reaction. He gives him a good shake, then a better one.]
Wake up, goddammit!
[Nothing. Not even a twitch. Just his head lolling around, useless as a doll.]
[Carter stops shaking him and his grip loosens. There's no denying it. The one other adult from the real world is in a coma, and who knows when or if he'll wake up. He's alone here in what's more a psychotic break than a world, with the kid he tried to save who thinks he's a monster.]
He'd ask what he did to deserve this, but more and more he's getting the feeling there'd be an answer.]
[softer] Jayden. Come on.
[Nothing.]
[Blake looks down at Jayden. He isn't even breathing different. His shoulders sink in defeat.]
Fuck. You're out and now the kid's on his own. What am I supposed to do about that, Jayden?
[The hospital it is. He hauls Jayden into a sitting position on the bed and has to grab him by the back to the neck to keep him from pitching forward. He tilts Jayden's head to the side]
[in a stupid accent] "I'm Nahman. I'm a fahckin asshole and I had one jahb."
[He lets go and sighs.] Come on, Norman.
[After a couple false starts that nearly slide him off onto the floor, Blake gets Jayden over his shoulder and heads out.]
