[Shaun looks pale and trembling, and his eyes are wide and scared. He looks - and sounds, when he finally speaks - like he's been crying. All he can manage are four short words, before his voice cracks and it's all he can do not to break down.]

Norman won't wake up.

[It's funny because Blake's Munna has nibbled on Shaun's dreams before.

He takes the doll in surprise and looks from it back to Emily in surprise. Then he smiles a little, gratefully, and gives the doll a squeeze.]

Thanks, Emily. I'm sure it'll work really well!

[Cause presents from friends that are supposed to make you feel better usually do!]

[She gives him a small smile, relieved that the gift is appreciated. It feels nice to give him a gift that will hopefully help him out.]

You're welcome! I hope so.

[It has, at the very least, done it's part in distracting him from his sadness over Norman.]

[Well, most 11-year-old boys wouldn't really have the same reaction to a stuffed toy, especially a pink one with flowers, but this is a little boy who still couldn't sleep without his teddy bear even before his life went even more to shit.

He looks down at it and squeezes its stubby legs, settling it in his lap.]

I'll buy you one later, and then we'll be even, okay?

Aww, well thanks...

[She gives him a small smile and then sits back down next to him, sighing quietly.]

So... I was thinking maybe we could ask Mr. Lieutenant Blake what to do. He's old, he would know what to do.

[Have you ever seen all of the color drain out of someone's face before, Emily? well and they stay breathing
because all semblance of color just ran screaming from Shaun's face, and he looks like he's about to do the same.]

No, we can't ask him!

[She's quite honestly surprised by Shaun's reaction. Blake is so friendly and nice! Well, grumpy, but also still pretty friendly! So for him to look so... scared, is just leaving her very curious. Nervous too, but still curious.]

Why not?

Because he'll hurt Norman!

[There's an adamant tone to the boy's voice - the unwavering resolve of a kid passing judgment, who believes he'll know how a situation will end.

It's also the tone of a boy near-panicking, and his fingers tighten in the plush doll he's holding.]

[Emily's eyebrows furrow in confusion, before it's replaced with a skeptical look.]

No he won't! He's a good person, don't be silly, Shaun.

He's not good! He killed my dad!

[Oh dear now he's panicking. And if there was any more proof needed that Norman wasn't just sleeping, the fact that he's sleeping through Shaun yelling is pretty clear proof.]

And if we call him, he'll hurt Norman, too!
