Video/Action for Violet City

[It's the middle of the afternoon, and Shaun has something very important to share.]

Guess what! Guess what!

[The camera pans over to a rather proud-looking Floatzel and a Mightyena who's sitting loyally and staring at the Pokegear (really, at the boy holding it) with a curious head tilt, her tail wagging against the ground.]

Susie and Richie evolved! Look how big they are! Isn't that awesome?

[Forgive him, he's still at the self-centered age where he's relatively positive that almost everyone cares about his accomplishments. Or his pokemon's accomplishments, as it were. Also, Mightyena are rumored to only obey experienced trainers, so this kid must be no pushover to have her panting happily and butting her head against his hand when he reaches out from behind the Pokegear to scratch her behind the ear.]

[Susie eyes Alvin up and down, and then shrugs and smirks, patting the Patrat indulgently on the head.

"Shaun would like it if Mister Norman trained with us. You should try to get him to leave his room more often. Maybe you'd finally get to evolve."

Shaun shifts uncertainly at the sad look on Norman's face - people never say good things when their faces shift like that. And sure enough, Norman mentions the dumb manual again. Okay, it's not so dumb, but Shaun wants Norman to come train with him, and the manual has been taking all of his attention. Sometimes he worries that Norman feels like Shaun is holding him back, since Norman's already got his Zephyr Badge.

More and more, Shaun is refusing to realize that none of Norman's team are strong enough to take on Falkner.

Shaun almost misses the second half of the statement, but then he brightens with a surprised look when he realizes that Norman is smiling.]

Really?

[Ohh hohohoho yes! His tiny paw-feet rapidly taps on the floor. Head-pats are one of Alvin's favorites. Alvin isn't the brightest tool in the shed but he understands a majority of human talk. Seeing the grin on Mistah Nahman's face is enough to send the tiny chipmunk running up to his master's shoulder and starts to nuzzle his cheek against Norman's.

Norman couldn't help but stifle a chuckle as one hand comes over to scratch Alvin under the chin.]

Really. You can show me everything you learned. I could use a refresher course.

[Susie and Richie flank their trainer when Alvin runs back to his, and Shaun puts a hand on Richie's back and scratches the spot on Susie's cheek that she likes to have scratched. He's beaming ear to ear, and he looks excited.]

Alright! Awesome! Where do you wanna start?

Let's start somewhere easy and I can work my way up. Here-

[There is a small gameplan whirling around inside that head of his. How well is this going to pan out? Who knows. As long as he can get Taco and El Caliente to get a little bit of experience everyday then that's good enough for Norman.

He reveals the box to Shaun.]

I think you'll need this.

[Inside Shaun will find (1)official Pokemon Trainer cap.]

[Shaun's bright-eyed enthusiasm turns to bewilderment when Norman takes a box out from behind his back and presents it to him. He takes it a little hesitantly and gives it a gentle shake. It doesn't weigh much. He opens it and lets out a gasp of surprise when he sees what's inside.

The box falls to the ground as he holds the hat and then looks up at Norman.]

For me? Really?

I can't think of any other person with a head as small as yours.

[Norman can't recall a time where things felt so- so simple. Before coming to Johto, even after the investigation, the agent was too caught up in the now. Always moving. No time to breath. It was enough to look (and feel) like a Grade A mess. But to see kid like Shaun be look at a hat with such awe is something indescribable. Something you can't learn or experience from the FBI Academy.]

You're going to beat Falkner, right? Might as well show him that Shaun Mars is an official trainer of the league.

[Welcome to a world built for 10-11 year olds, Norman. Shaun looks down at the hat in his hands. He runs his hand over the durable fabric of the hat, tracing the embroidery with a finger, and then looks up at Norman when he explains.

The confidence in him makes him grin, and he puts the cap on, making sure that the brim is just right.]

Thanks, Norman! How's it look?

No problem.

[Let's see...Give him Norman a second to formally inspect the swag of this fine hat.

Hm...There is nothing out of place. Doesn't look too loose or tight. Yep! I think we have ourselves a super legit Pokemon Trainer in front of us.]

Looks good on you. I think you're just about ready to get your first badge.

[Norman proceeds to pluck Alvin off from his shoulder and grabs the empty box to discard.]

Come on, I'll go grab the rest of my pokemon and we can train for the rest of the day. Sound like a plan?

[Shaun glances at Susie and Richie for confirmation, and they nod and make their confidence known with a happy "Float!" and a playful growl.

He looks back up at Norman. Norman is officially the coolest babysitter ever ok ok.]

Sounds awesome! C'mon guys, let's go! I can't believe you're really gonna train with us, Norman. Does this mean you'll come with us more often, too?

Yeah, more often than usual.

[However long that is. Norman was never much a fan of having his pokemon bop around and take down other small bystanding critters. "Self defense" sure but this world has a twisted way of going about it.

But for now, he gives Shaun a head nod and a look that reads "You got it kid" as he exits out to fetch the rest of TEAM JAYDEN with Alvin tailing behind him.]
